The scam involved a staggering KSh 4.1 billion tied to stolen American identities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to US authorities, the suspects utilized stolen personal details to set up fake student accounts. They then used these accounts to apply for government education funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Five suspects have officially been charged in connection with this complex scheme. The operation caused total losses amounting to over $32 million, which is about KSh 4.1 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the course of their investigations, authorities also seized valuable digital assets. They recovered cryptocurrency worth over $750,000, roughly KSh 97 million, from an account linked to a Kenyan suspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an entirely separate case, another serious financial crime came to light. A 54-year-old Kenyan man was charged with stealing over KSh 142 million from a child feeding programme in Minnesota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Law enforcement arrested him on September 30, 2026. This arrest followed a lengthy period after he spent nearly 10 months hiding in Kenya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investigators revealed that he and his accomplices used fake records to show they were feeding more than 6,000 children daily. Some of this stolen money was allegedly used to purchase property and a car in Kenya, while other funds were sent directly to the suspect and his son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These high-profile cases form part of a wider US investigation into the theft of government funds.
