The ruling brings a measure of accountability for a horrific crime committed against a vulnerable victim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. This ruling followed his formal conviction for assaulting an 86-year-old woman in Mukurwe-ini Sub-County, Nyeri County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The offender has been identified as Jairus Githendu Irenyo. He was successfully convicted under Section 3(1)(a) and (b), read together with Section 3(3) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This successful conviction was secured following a strong prosecution led by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). The legal team worked diligently to ensure justice was served.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The disturbing incident took place on September 1, 2025, at Gitura Village in Kiharo Location. The court heard how the accused unlawfully broke into the elderly woman&#8217;s home by damaging a wall beside her door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once inside, he used force and threats to restrain and assault her. Following the ordeal, the brave survivor reported the matter to the area chief, who quickly referred her to the police for immediate action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the investigation, the survivor revealed that the accused had targeted her on previous occasions as well. Unfortunately, she had kept silent about those earlier attacks out of shame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This ruling serves as a strong reminder that crimes against the elderly will be met with the full force of the law.
