Homa Bay Governor and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Chairperson Gladys Wanga has expressed confidence that the party will retain all its elective seats in Busia County ahead of the 2027 General Election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Speaking on Sunday, October 11, 2026, during the Imwatok Super Cup in Teso South, Busia County, Wanga dismissed claims that ODM had weakened following the death of its longtime leader, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wanga urged residents to remain united and continue supporting the party, describing Busia as one of ODM\u2019s strongest political bases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said the party remained firm despite concerns about its future following Raila\u2019s death in October 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Wanga, Busia has maintained a strong connection with ODM, adding that the party was determined to retain its elective positions in the county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also defended ODM\u2019s participation in the broad-based government under President William Ruto, saying the arrangement would help promote development across different parts of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wanga argued that working with the government did not mean the party had abandoned its political identity or grassroots supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The governor was speaking during a memorial sporting event held in honour of Raila, as ODM continued its month-long activities marking the first anniversary of his death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She commended Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader Peter Imwatok for organising the tournament, saying the event provided an opportunity to engage young people while keeping Raila\u2019s legacy alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event brought together several ODM leaders, including Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed and Busia Governor Paul Otuoma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The leaders also visited Funyula and Teso South as part of the party\u2019s Mwezi Wa Baba commemorations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their visit comes as political leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election, with questions emerging about ODM\u2019s direction following the loss of its longtime leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wanga\u2019s remarks reflect the party leadership\u2019s efforts to reassure supporters that ODM remains active and committed to contesting elective positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the party\u2019s ability to retain all its seats will ultimately depend on voter choices and the outcome of the next general election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
