class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has outlined ongoing development projects worth Sh17 billion in Nyeri County, alongside new infrastructure plans targeting roads, healthcare, electricity, housing and business facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking during a development tour of Nyeri on Thursday, October 1, 2026, Kindiki said the government was implementing projects intended to improve public services, create employment opportunities and support economic activities across the county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Deputy President said the government was undertaking the construction and tarmacking of 775 kilometres of roads in Nyeri at a cost of Sh45 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that affordable housing, fresh produce markets and student accommodation projects valued at Sh17 billion were at different stages of implementation, with an additional Sh5 billion worth of projects in the pipeline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kindiki also highlighted plans to expand electricity access, saying Sh650 million had been allocated to connect an additional 12,000 households across the county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the healthcare sector, he said the government was upgrading Mwai Kibaki Level 6 Hospital and Nyeri Provincial General Hospital, a Level 5 facility, at a cost of Sh1 billion each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The projects are intended to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve access to specialised and referral services for residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On trade and business development, Kindiki highlighted the construction of fresh produce markets designed to provide traders with improved working spaces and better facilities for handling agricultural produce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also cited the development of Ruring\u2019u Stadium and the planned extension of the Thika-Kenol-Sagana-Karatina-Marua road corridor through Nyeri Town towards Dedan Kimathi University as part of the county\u2019s wider infrastructure agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Deputy President said the projects were expected to support local businesses, improve transport and create opportunities for skilled and unskilled workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kindiki was accompanied by Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga, Nyeri Town MP Duncan Mathenge, Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina, Members of the County Assembly and other local leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The announcements form part of the national government\u2019s ongoing development programme in the Mt Kenya region, with roads, public facilities, electricity connections and markets featuring prominently in its plans for Nyeri County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
