{"id":942,"date":"2026-10-29T10:44:01","date_gmt":"2026-10-29T10:44:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jukwaapress.co.ke\/?p=942"},"modified":"2026-10-29T10:44:02","modified_gmt":"2026-10-29T10:44:02","slug":"former-usiu-student-sentenced-to-death-over-classmates-murder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jukwaapress.co.ke\/?p=942","title":{"rendered":"Former USIU Student Sentenced to Death Over Classmate\u2019s Murder."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"978\" src=\"https:\/\/jukwaapress.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/20261029_133735.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-943\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jukwaapress.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/20261029_133735.jpg 960w, https:\/\/jukwaapress.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/20261029_133735-294x300.jpg 294w, https:\/\/jukwaapress.co.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/20261029_133735-768x782.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By Owen Chege <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> A former United States International University-Africa (USIU-Africa) student, Duncan Livingstone Kimathi, has been sentenced to death for the murder of his fellow student, Sarah Akello Aruwa, in 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 37-year-old was found guilty of killing Akello in Kiamako, Githunguri, Kiambu County, following a court case that lasted several years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Justice Kanyi Kimondo delivered the ruling after the prosecution presented 17 witnesses who linked Kimathi to the kidnapping and murder of the student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The court heard that Akello, who was in her final year studying International Relations, was tricked into attending a meeting before being kidnapped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following her disappearance, the kidnappers contacted her family and demanded KSh 100,000 for her release. Her mother negotiated the amount down to KSh 70,000 before reporting the matter to Kasarani Police Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During investigations, police recovered some of Akello&#8217;s personal belongings, including a blood-stained top, from a house linked to Kimathi&#8217;s girlfriend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A postmortem examination later revealed that Akello died from manual strangulation, meaning she was killed through pressure applied to her neck using hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Justice Kimondo ruled that the evidence proved Kimathi had planned and intentionally committed the murder.
