The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games officially opened on October 31, marking a major milestone for Senegal and the entire African continent.

The games are taking place in Senegal from October 31 to November 13, 2026. They have brought together thousands of young athletes from different countries to compete and represent their nations on the international stage.

About 2,650 young athletes from 204 National Olympic Committees are taking part in the competition, alongside the Youth Refugee Olympic Team. The athletes are competing across 25 sports, giving young talents an opportunity to showcase their skills.

The opening ceremony was held at Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Diamniadio, near the capital city of Dakar. The event featured music, dance and performances celebrating Senegalese culture and the rich heritage of Africa.

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye officially declared the games open, while International Olympic Committee President Kirsty Coventry welcomed the athletes and highlighted the importance of bringing the Olympic movement to Africa.

The competitions are being held across three areas: Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly. Athletes are competing in different sports, including athletics, swimming, boxing, football, cycling and basketball-related events.

Beyond the competition, the games aim to promote friendship, cultural exchange and unity among young people from different parts of the world. They also provide Senegal with an opportunity to showcase its culture, tourism and ability to host major international sporting events.

The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games will run until November 13. The historic event is expected to inspire young athletes across Africa and encourage greater investment in sports development across the continent.

[15

post-992","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-sports
["GET
