Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has responded to President William Ruto following a public exchange over remarks concerning the former deputy president and his political influence.

Speaking to Kenyans living in the United States on Friday, 2 October, Gachagua revisited the Ol Kalou by-election and argued that the contest had become a political test involving himself and the President. He claimed that Ruto had invested heavily in development projects in the constituency in an attempt to influence the outcome.

Gachagua also questioned the President’s criticism of him, saying Kenyans would ultimately judge the competing political positions as the country moves towards the 2027 General Election.

The exchange follows comments Ruto made during a media engagement in Mombasa on 30 September, when he criticised Gachagua’s remarks concerning mineral wealth and the proposed exploitation of niobium at Mrima Hills.

The latest exchange illustrates the continuing political disagreements between the two leaders. The claims about campaign spending and electoral influence remain attributable to Gachagua and should not be treated as independently verified findings
