Small-scale traders in Nairobi are calling for measures to reduce the rising cost of doing business, saying increased expenses are affecting their daily income.

The traders operating in different parts of the city say the cost of goods, transport and other business expenses has made it difficult for them to make enough profits.

Some traders say they have been forced to adjust their prices, while others have reduced the amount of stock they purchase due to limited capital.

A trader in Nairobi said the situation has affected both businesses and customers.

“The cost of buying stock has gone up, but customers also complain when we increase prices. Sometimes the profit we make is very small,” the trader said.

Consumers have also expressed concern over the changing prices of essential goods, with some saying they are now buying smaller quantities to manage their budgets.

Small businesses play an important role in providing employment and income to many Nairobi residents. However, traders say continued increases in operating costs could make it harder for some businesses to survive.

The traders are calling on relevant authorities to support small businesses through measures that can reduce operating costs and improve the business environment.
