The family of 18-year-old Joy Wangui is seeking justice after she was allegedly killed at her home in Molo, Nakuru County.

Wangui was a Form Four student at Molo Senior School and was preparing to sit for her 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

Her body was found on Sunday, October 4, at her family home in the Kiambaa area of Moto Location, Molo. Reports say her younger brother found her body after coming back from a nearby family shop.

Police visited the scene and recovered an axe, a panga and knives which had bloodstains. The items are now part of the evidence being examined by detectives.

Police later launched a search for 23-year-old Walter Kipkoech, who was known to Wangui and is reported to have been her boyfriend.

Kipkoech was arrested in Kuresoi North after a police operation. According to police, he was found wearing clothes that had what appeared to be bloodstains.

He was taken to court as detectives continued with investigations into Wangui’s death.

The prosecution asked the court for more time to complete investigations, including DNA tests, a post-mortem examination and a mental health assessment.

The court ordered Kipkoech to remain in police custody for 21 days. He is expected to return to court on October 27 for plea-taking.

Wangui’s family has also raised concerns about her relationship with the suspect.

Her mother, Trizah Wairimu said that the family had earlier reported concerns about the relationship to the police and the area chief.

The family has also disputed some information spreading on social media about Wangui and the suspect. Her aunt, Margaret Njuguna, said some screenshots being shared online did not involve Wangui.

The family is now waiting for investigators to establish what happened and why Wangui was killed.

As the investigation continues, the suspect remains innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
