The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has started working with county security teams to identify areas that could experience political tensions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The commission says the exercise is aimed at identifying possible risks early and putting measures in place to prevent election-related violence.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon said security risks should be identified at the local and county levels to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
The commission is also concerned about the use of artificial intelligence to create misleading images and information that could spread misinformation during the election period.
IEBC Commissioner Prof. Francis Odhiambo identified political goonism, gangsterism and misuse of AI as major threats to the 2027 election.
He said the commission can only conduct a free and fair election if voters are able to participate in a peaceful and secure environment.
The IEBC is expected to continue working with security agencies as preparations for the August 2027 General Election intensify.
