Education CS Ogamba Urges Striking Lecturers to Resume Work.

By Owen Chege
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has urged striking university lecturers to return to work as negotiations over the 2025–2029 salary agreement continue.
Ogamba called on lecturers to resume teaching while discussions between the government and their representatives continue, saying the strike should not interfere with students’ education.
The lecturers are demanding salary increases ranging from 36 to 68 percent as part of the proposed agreement. They are also pushing for improved working conditions and better employment benefits.
Among their key demands are increased allowances, improved medical cover and better pension benefits. The lecturers want these issues addressed through the ongoing negotiations.
Ogamba said the government is ready to engage with lecturers and find a solution to the dispute through dialogue. He encouraged both sides to continue discussions to reach an agreement.
The Education CS also expressed concern over the impact of the strike on university students, whose learning activities risk being disrupted as the dispute continues.
The ongoing disagreement centres on the proposed 2025–2029 salary agreement, with lecturers seeking improved pay and benefits before the matter is fully resolved.
The government has maintained its willingness to negotiate, with attention now turning to whether the discussions will lead to an agreement and allow normal learning activities to resume in universities.
