NTSA arrests 12 drivers in Meru during night-time road safety operation

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has arrested 12 drivers and impounded their vehicles following a night-time road safety operation in Meru County.
The operation, conducted in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, targeted motorists suspected of violating traffic regulations.
According to NTSA, eight of the arrested drivers were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol, while another motorist reportedly refused to provide a breath specimen for testing.
The authority revealed that some of the recorded alcohol levels were significantly above the legal limit of 0.35 milligrams per litre.
The highest reading recorded during the operation was 1.483 milligrams per litre.
NTSA warned that driving under the influence of alcohol puts the lives of motorists, passengers and other road users at risk.
The operation forms part of the authority’s wider road safety enforcement campaign, which includes vehicle inspections, checks on driver documentation and efforts to address dangerous driving practices.
The authority has urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations and avoid driving after consuming alcohol.
