Journalism fraternity mourns veteran journalist Kitavi Mutua

The media fraternity is mourning the death of veteran journalist Kitavi Mutua, who passed away while receiving treatment at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital.
Mutua, a long-serving correspondent for Nation Media Group in Kitui County, died on Friday, October 30, following complications linked to a venomous snake bite.
According to his family, the journalist was bitten by a red-spitting cobra at his home in Kitui County. He was initially admitted to Kitui County Referral Hospital before being transferred to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital after his condition deteriorated.
He remained in the intensive care unit for approximately two weeks.
His family spokesperson said the snake bite complications, alongside an underlying medical condition, contributed to his deteriorating health.
Throughout his journalism career, Mutua covered politics, climate action, health, devolution and community issues, establishing himself as an influential voice in the region.
Several leaders and fellow journalists have paid tribute to him, describing him as a dedicated professional, mentor and friend who contributed significantly to journalism in Kitui and beyond.
His death is a loss to the media fraternity and the communities whose stories he helped tell.
