Former Kiambu Governor Waititu Fined KSh21 Million in Graft Case.

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been fined KSh21 million or face alternative prison sentences totalling 13 years following his conviction on three money laundering charges linked to a KSh588 million corruption case. The sentence was delivered by the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on Monday, November 2, 2026.
The court sentenced Waititu to five years in prison or a KSh10 million fine on the first count. He received another four-year prison term or a KSh6 million fine on the second count, and four years or a KSh5 million fine on the third count.
The three fines add up to KSh21 million, which Waititu must pay to avoid the alternative prison terms. However, the sentences will run concurrently with his existing 12-year prison sentence, meaning they will not be added to the earlier term.
The case involves a KSh588.7 million road construction contract awarded by the Kiambu County government during Waititu’s time as governor. The contract was meant to upgrade gravel roads to bitumen standards in several areas, including Thika, Limuru, Juja, Ruiru and Gatundu North.
Investigations into the contract began in 2019 following concerns about possible irregularities in the tendering process. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission investigated allegations of corruption, conflict of interest and the movement of money linked to the contract.
The latest sentence follows an October 2026 High Court ruling that overturned Waititu’s earlier acquittal on the money laundering charges. The court found him guilty on three counts and referred the matter for sentencing.
Waititu had already been sentenced to 12 years in prison in February 2025 over other corruption-related offences linked to the same road contract. His conviction and sentence were later upheld on appeal.
The latest ruling adds financial penalties to the former governor’s legal troubles. The case remains one of the major corruption cases involving a former county governor in Kenya.
