Kalonzo Condemns Alleged Plot Against Natembeya, Questions Ruto’s RemarksCategory: Politics / National NewsWiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has condemned alleged plans to arrest Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, while criticising President William Ruto over remarks suggesting opposition leaders could face accidents. The criticism comes amid growing political tensions between the President and opposition leaders, following disagreements over development projects in Trans Nzoia County and concerns about the safety of politicians critical of the government.

Kalonzo has expressed concern over what he views as attempts to intimidate opposition leaders through arrests and other actions. He has previously alleged that authorities planned to arrest Natembeya, claims that have not in themselves established that a plot existed.

The controversy has intensified following remarks attributed to President Ruto during his recent political engagements. According to The Standard, the President warned opposition leaders that they would face difficulties, using the phrase “safari hii watapata accident,” which translates roughly to “this time, they will have an accident.” The remarks have raised concerns among opposition figures about the safety of political leaders. The StandardNatembeya, who has been outspoken in his criticism of the national government, has also raised concerns about his security after his bodyguards were reportedly withdrawn. He has denied being intimidated and challenged authorities to arrest him if they believe he has committed an offence.

The dispute also centres on development projects in Kitale, including the Masinde Muliro Market and the proposed construction of a Level Five hospital. Natembeya has questioned the national government’s involvement in projects he says fall within the county government’s responsibilities, while Ruto has accused the governor of obstructing development initiatives.

The growing disagreement has renewed calls from opposition leaders for political differences to be handled within the law and for the security of elected leaders to be protected.Meanwhile, the allegations surrounding a possible arrest and concerns about the President’s remarks remain politically contentious. Any claims of a deliberate plan to arrest or harm Natembeya would require independent verification.
